Thank you Scion, and Columbus, Ohio for such an amazing day. It was also great meeting Vince and Kip from MetalSucks.net and Bob from Relapse Records. Minus the shitty weather, the festival was still sick-as-fuck. I’ve been in anticipation for this day since I first heard that Scion Metal Fest was coming to our home town of Columbus, and it was well worth it. Click through to read more.I didn’t stick around any one venue for too long, due to the massive about of acts that were performing at 4 different venues. The Knuckles First Crew’s first stop was The Circus, where Deadsea put on one hell of an opening act: soul thrashing, mind crushing metal. During set changes we headed over to Skullys to check out some more acts. The only act we got to check out was Black Tusk, they also put on a brutal show.
After making a pit stop on the MetalSucks Metal Bus, we headed up to Newport Music Hall, where we spent most of the rest of our evening. Most of the guys from KnucklesFirst wanted to check out 3 Inches of Blood, I on the other hand, would’ve rather stuck my head in a cage full of rabid wolverines. They sounded exactly like they do on their albums, the live performance was, “meh”. I was impressed by D.R.I, they had a VERY large following and I never even heard of them. Of course most of their followers could’ve been my parents in denim vests with chrome studs, and the ever so awesome “Live to Thrash” 80′s style trucker hat. But they put on a really good live show, I believe the crowd holds the longest time spent in a circle pit, I tip my hat to you, D.R.I.
This was the first time I’ve ever been into Bernie’s Distillery. This stereotypical basement hole in the wall, greeted our nostrils with the aroma of bleach and urinal cakes. Don’t get me wrong, it was still one of the best places I’ve watched live music. We walked in about half of the way through Ludicra‘s set, which was amazing. After 2 Jack & Cokes and a Bud Light, I finally got irritated on the length of ABSU‘s set change, and we walked our drunk impatient asses back down to Newport to watch the almighty Cannibal Corpse.
